Big Frog at the 2010 Ocoee River Clean-up

If you were on HWY 64 in the Ocoee River Gorge this past Tuesday, you may have seen numbers of people on the sides of the road and down by the river picking up trash. This was not the adopt-a-mile program, it was the guides & staff of the many Ocoee rafting companies taking part in the 2010 Ocoee River Cleanup. On this particular river clean up, the Big Frog crew was nowhere to be found on the side of the highway but you could find them at the Middle Ocoee Put-in. After the trash was gathered by all of the volunteers, it was transported to the Middle Ocoee Put-in where Big Frog Expeditions intercepted it. There, 17 members of the Big Frog Staff individually sorted through each bag of trash & salvaged many recyclable goods. The effort was organized by Rick Houlk, the owner of Big Frog Expeditions. Without Rick taking the initiative to organize this, many recyclable goods would have found their way into the dumpster instead of the recycling center. The Chattanooga Times covered this story, check it out here! http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2010/jun/09/rafters-recycle-river-rubbish/

Blue Moon Cruise

As the peak of rafting season quickly arrives, the Ocoee River guides & staff of Big Frog Expeditions, Ocoee Adventure Center, & Southeastern Expeditions all got together to kick off the season with one of Blue Moon’s fine cruises down the beautiful Tennessee River. Call it crazy taking raft guides outside of the river scene and allowing them to interact with “outside world.” And even more so taking three companies with three completely different raft guide staff. The day started around 10:30 with the three rafting company’s meeting at the Big Frog Outpost for a quick bus ride to Chattanooga where Blue Moon Cruises is located. By noon, they were all aboard Blue Moon’s 70 foot luxury riverboat cruiser taking in the beautiful scenery. Of course wherever a horde raft guides go, so too does the party. Not after long, the once relaxing and peaceful top deck of the Blue Moon turned into a rocking dance floor full of bodies swaying in the wind. With the blow of a horn and the docking of the boat, our cruise came to an end and it was time to bid adu to our host captain and staff. The gathering of course didn’t end there. After a short bus ride back, the three companies then returned to the Big Frog Outpost where they enjoyed a good ole family cookout accompanied by a friendly volleyball tournament. The Big Frog First Year Ocoee Guides emerged as the overall winner for the day with a final record of 7-1. Overall, the day was a success full of relaxation, good food, friends, and fellowship.
